Birmingham Motor Vehicle Accident Lawyer

A Letter From Jefferson County Personal Injury Attorney Whit Drake

If you are visiting this website because you were injured in an accident, or lost a loved one because of someone else's negligence, I would like to tell you about us.

First, a little about me. I come from a long, proud line of attorneys, all who practice law in Alabama. In fact, my immediate family includes 12 members of the Alabama bar, including my wife, several judges and former speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives, Tom Drake. I received my law degree from the University of Alabama and was fortunate to apprentice for the Alabama Supreme Court.

Personal Responsiveness and Open Communication — It's Not Too Much to Expect

Following law school, I tried my first case at age 25 and obtained a $700,000 punitive damage jury verdict. My first verdict for more than $1 million came just two years later in a wrongful death case. I was successful during my first 10 years of practice, as an associate, then partner, at a large law firm in Birmingham, but I could feel clients' frustrations about being shuffled from one attorney to the next over the course of their cases. As an associate attorney, I became aware of clients frustrated that their case would not be handled by a senior partner. It's a common practice, but it is unfair to the client who signed on with an experienced attorney.

When I decided to open the Drake Law Firm in 1998, it was with a personal commitment to make sure our clients worked directly with their own attorneys, throughout the duration of their cases. What does that mean to you? At the Drake Law Firm, when you call your attorney about an important matter, your attorney will answer the phone or call you back as soon as he is available. Not the office manager. Not a paralegal. Not even an associate. Your personal attorney. Until your case is completely resolved.

We Stick to What We Have Always Done Best. It Just Makes Sense.

The Drake Law Firm is a personal injury and wrongful death trial firm. We are focused 100 percent on providing intelligent, aggressive and effective legal representation for plaintiffs who have suffered injury and loss because of someone else's negligence. Most of the time that simply means that we fight large, powerful insurance companies on your behalf. Period.

Winning a fair settlement or jury award in a personal injury or wrongful death claim is becoming more difficult with each passing year. Insurance adjusters know that juries in Alabama are notoriously conservative in their outlook. Taking a case to court requires knowledge, thorough investigation of the incident and a clear presentation of evidence. Our law firm is well-equipped and experienced at handling severe and catastrophic personal injury claims such as paralysis, wrongful death, traumatic brain injury, amputations and burn injuries. In a challenging litigation environment, we are proud of the numerous settlements and jury awards in excess of $1 million we have obtained for our clients.

Our Lawyers Have Earned the Highest Possible AV Rating* in a Peer Review Process
